A parked domain address is one that is taken, but it is not associated with some other service - web or e mail hosting. Essentially, this type of domain address won't open any actual content in case you type it inside a web browser, but no one else can take it as you have already registered it and you are its owner. The best thing about obtaining a domain name and parking it afterwards is the fact that you will be able to keep it and not worry that someone else may register it meanwhile if, for example, the website for it is not ready yet. You may set a temporary Under Construction website page for a parked domain address while you're working on the site, or direct it to some other web address - temporarily or permanently. The latter option can be used if you have already registered domain.com, for example, and you obtain domain.net and domain.org, in order to protect a brand name or a trademark. In this situation, the .net and .org domain addresses can be parked and directed to the .com because you do not need separate websites for them.
